While the Fridley Church of Christ holds to no creed other than the Bible, there are some beliefs that we feel are foundational to the Christian faith and to our work as a church.
We believe:
That a Higher Intelligence (called God) exists.
That the Bible both claims to be and is fully inspired by God. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17; 2 Peter 1:20,21)
That what the Bible says about God is therefore true.
That God is the creator of everything, visible and invisible. (Genesis 1:1ff; Colossians 1:13-17; Hebrews 1:1,2)
That God consists of three individual entities that are completely unified in purpose, power, and thought and therefore always act as one and are often described as one. (Genesis 1:26; 3:22; 11:7)
That the three individual entities of God are the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19)
That God created man with free will. (Genesis ch. 3)
That sin results when man chooses to disobey God and trust his own judgment. (Genesis ch. 3)
That we are all guilty of sin and need to be saved by God. (Romans 3:9-18, 23; 6:23)
That there is no salvation outside of Christ. (Acts 4:8-12)
That Jesus Christ, the Son, is fully God. (John 1:1,2)
That Jesus Christ became fully human, as well. (John 1:14; Hebrews 2:14)
That his death on the cross and the blood he shed bought our salvation, as he took the punishment for our sins.(John 1:29; Revelation 1:5; Colossians 1:13-15; Luke 23:32-49; 1 Corinthians 6:20; Acts 20:28)
That it is entirely through trust in this fact, and that God will therefore not hold us guilty, that we are saved; we believe that we cannot do any work, period, that will be great enough to earn our salvation. (Ephesians 2:8,9)
That we demonstrate this trust in the manner that God has asked us to: repentance, confession, and water immersion. It is at this point that God washes our sins away through faith. (Mark 16:15,16; Acts 2:21, 2:38, 22:16; Romans 10:9,10; 1 Peter 3:21;)
That, as a Christian, God no longer sees our imperfections and sin, rather he sees the blood of Jesus Christ which covers us. (Galatians 3:26,27)
That, as a Christian, we are to consider ourselves dead to sin and not to continually, willfully, and without remorse go on living in sin. (Romans 6:1,2,11; Hebrews 10:26; 1 Peter 2:24; 2 Peter 2:20-22)
That it is the work of the church to spread this good news of salvation through Christ to the whole world. (Matthew 28:18-20)
That Jesus Christ is going to return a second and final time, after which we will all be judged and this universe will be destroyed. (2 Peter 3:3-12; Matthew 25:31-46; Revelation 1:7)
That there is an eternal heaven and an eternal hell, and that we will all end up in one place or the other. (2Thessalonians 1:5-10; 2 Peter 3:13; John 14:1-3; Matt. 25:31-46)
